Why Volunteer in Livingstone?

By August 31, 2015October 10th, 2023No Comments

African Impact, the largest on-the-ground facilitator of responsible voluntourism in Africa, helped establish The Happy Africa Foundation in 2008 as a way to responsibly manage the generous donations received from volunteers working on African Impact projects. The Happy Africa Foundation continues to work closely with African Impact to develop and uplift local communities in the areas where volunteer projects are located.

Our partnership with African Impact means that anyone can contribute to The Happy Africa Foundation in one of the most rewarding, enriching and fun ways possible: by volunteering on one of our projects! Volunteering can be a fulfilling, life-changing experience and is an opportunity to immerse yourself in a new culture, make friends for life and visit some of the most beautiful places in Africa.

Lets look a what it would be like in Livingstone, Zambia!

If you volunteer or intern in Livingstone, every day will be different. You’ll depart for your sports, healthcare or teaching project on the famous ‘Muzungu Bus’ at 7.45am where you’ll be assisting in a classroom to give some much needed one on one attention to the children, teaching healthy living through sports or visiting patients in the community on home based care, educating them on disease prevention.

After lunch, you’ll then head out to our community projects where you could be teaching adult literacy, HIV education, farming, running literacy and numeracy classes in school or even litter picking and making eco bricks.

Livingstones home to one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Victoria Falls. Livingstone is a tourist town, but behind the main town, you will find some of the friendliest communities you could encounter.  The people will welcome you with open arms and want to share their stories and culture with you. As well as all the wonderful work you will do on projects, you will also be working with The Happy Africa Foundation, our sister charity, and help fundraise for our focal projects that include renovating a community school and expanding a clinic into a hospital.

After a long day on projects you’ll return back to base at Livingstone Backpackers and reflect on what you achieved that day and prepare yourself for the following day.  The amazing thing about volunteering is that we guarantee you will receive as much as you give and you will learn as much as you teach.

So what are you waiting for? Volunteer with African Impact in Livingstone!
