As we reached the end of the Conservation Club module “Reuse and Recycle”, during which our students learned about waste management, renewable energies and other creative ways of reusing rubbish, we organised a field trip in order to finalise the course and give them a last and different point of view on recycling.
We decided to take the kids to visit Creative Solution Zanzibar, near Stone Town. They started as a small NGO teaching classes to the local communities and they try to share and communicate about the local cultures through art.
They collect glass bottles from every resort on the Island and create useful and decorative objects with their know how and skills in glass making and reshaping. They also funded a nursery school and an environmental class for everyone with a wide range of activities like discovering solar power, reshaping glass or reusing plastic.
The Conservation Club spent the whole day there and were exited about the glass shaping activities. They learned different ways of using and reusing cement and plastic that they will try to do with their community.
Now it is time to start our new module “Creative Conservation”.
