Life Skills
The life skills programmes complement education by guiding and preparing vulnerable young people to navigate challenges and make informed choices.
Through various activities, participants are encouraged to take on leadership roles, which help them to build confidence and develop essential skills.
Youth Insaka
YOUTH INSAKA is a safe space for young people to explore crucial topics and to give guidance through the challenges of their student years as they become young adults.. The word ‘Insaka’’ means ‘shelter’ in Bemba, one of Zambia’s rich cultural tribes.
Youth Insaka empowers school-aged youth with knowledge, skills and support in the areas of education, leadership, wellness, and decision-making.. With trained youth ambassadors teaching their peers, it means we can reach many more young people across communities. Key subjects are agreed upon with the Departments of Education and include:
- guidance through the education journey,
- gender equality,
- drug and alcohol use,
- reproductive health,
- human rights
- gender-based violence.

In 2022, Tracey Choongo joined the Youth Insaka program at Mulwani Secondary School and quickly stood out for her dedication and leadership. Her active participation and passion for change led her to become a Youth Ambassador, a role she embraced with enthusiasm.
As an Ambassador, Tracey led sessions that encouraged collaboration, open dialogue, and problem-solving among students. Her leadership inspired a positive shift in her school’s culture. Deputy Head Teacher Ireen Miyanda Kambunga shared, “Tracey’s dedication and natural leadership have encouraged students to engage more actively in school and community projects.”
After graduating in 2023, Tracey joined the 2024 African Impact Foundation’s work experience program, where she continues to mentor students and lead as a Youth Ambassador. She is now studying Business Administration at the University of Zambia in Lusaka on a full scholarship.
Reproductive Health Programme
REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH PROGRAMME – known locally as LETS, empowers women, men, and young adults to make informed choices about their reproductive health and promote healthy practices and care.
As well as essential information, participants are trained on using a lunar tracking bracelet which is shown to reduce unwanted pregnancies when used correctly.
This knowledge helps adults make healthy family planning choices and informs teenagers about essential information relevant to their age.

“Before LETS, I knew little about my body and often felt uncertain as I grew up. That changed when I joined the program. The mentorship and lessons, especially on menstrual health and hygiene, opened my eyes and gave me confidence. I now understand how important it is to have accurate information and feel empowered by the knowledge I gained.”

Girl Impact
GIRL IMPACT focuses on promoting gender equality through various programmes aimed at teenagers.
The aim is to ensure that all girls and boys have the opportunity to engage in these important discussions as they transition into adulthood. It encourages them to reflect on their beliefs and understand the implications of gender equality in their lives.
The initiative includes interactive clubs for both girls and boys in schools, covering essential topics such as menstrual hygiene, puberty, risky behaviours, substance avoidance, confidence building, and issues related to domestic and gender-based violence.

Work Placements
WORK PLACEMENTS provide high school graduates with the opportunity to develop essential workplace skills, enhance their leadership confidence, and experience teamwork.
To date, all our work placement students have progressed to university to further their careers and secure opportunities for a brighter future.

“I faced a number of obstacles in my academic journey, but as soon as the Foundation came in, it was all made easy for me. My sponsorship provided me with all my school requirements, which helped me achieve great results in my final examination. Furthermore, the Foundation also offered an internship, which is a really great privilege. So far, it has impacted me with public speaking skills, communication skills, time management and productivity, research, and motivation.”
Faith Lumbwe, Work Placement Beneficiary
”“African Impact Foundation is really doing great work in the lives of young people in our school. This is clearly seen in the academic performance of our learners, most of those who are in Youth Insaka are performing extremely well both academically and behavioral wise”
